New Favorites

Here is the latest floral design project: a bridal bouquet. I love it! It was a bit tricky to construct, simply because all the stems are not just straight together, they are spiraled. So getting them to stay spiraled and the flowers to stay in a rounded shape was difficult for my hands, but I eventually got the hang of it. I am so excited about this class! It is so much fun and I am learning so much!! I am bummed though because we only have two labs left.... I was actually thinking this summer when I go home to possibly see about getting a job at one of the floral shops around town just for fun. We'll see!!




Last night Caryn and Michelle Bake came and visited.
They are in town for the weekend and we got together to play. It was really fun to see them again! We went to a friends house and played one of my new favorite games : Rock Band. I had played Guitar Hero before a couple times, and so I kind of knew what I was doing. But with Rock Band, you have not only guitar but bass, drums, and lead singer. We played around for a few hours, and we each rotated each instrument. I think my favorites were the guitar and the drums. So much fun!

Relax

Why is it such a good feeling when you turn in a big assignment, or complete something really big? I don't know, but I am okay with it. Today I had to give a 45 minute presentation in my Pediatric Audiology class. It was a little scary, I'm not going to lie. I was pretty nervous about it starting from about...three days ago really till after I was done presenting. It actually went pretty well. It is just a good thing that my partner was able to stretch some things out because otherwise we would have been under time. BUT, we did okay, I survived, and I feel very light and free right now. ITs so great! Another added bonus---it is beautiful outside again!!! Yesterday was Easter. It was fun. On saturday Carolyn, Paul, and I dyed eggs, and then I made some easter food to take to her in-laws house for dinner yesterday. Overall, it was a good day. Kind of sad because the last three years mom and dad have been up here for easter. But not this year :(. But thats okay. I will get to see them in about....oh 31 days. But whose counting down till April 24th, right?

Spring has sprung

Spring is here! Well, mostly. I know I post a lot of pictures of flowers, but this is my latest creation and I just LOVE it! I think spring flowers are the prettiest ever. Needless to say, I am pretty excited about having this arrangement in my apartment. It makes things so much happier! AND, warm temperatures are starting to come back. LOVE that too! I think that Spring flowers and warm weather just gives me renewed energy and makes me happy - always a good thing!

I am slowly getting over this cold that I have. Strange, that I do not have any congestion, just aches and feeling very worn out and fatigued. Thats my biggest problem right now. Joy. This weekend I slept quite a bit. Carolyn said I must be sick if I can sleep tons at night, and still take napes. Well, thats been me for the last few days. Hopefully this ends soon. I don't like being sick!

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day. Carolyn invited me over for corned beef and carrots and potatoes. We also had green jello salad, and green lemon cake for dessert. It was pretty yummy! In some of my classes I heard a few girls complaining that they hated this holiday and they hated having to wear green and being forced to do this. I just though, ya know what, no one is MAKING you do anything today. Don't wear green if you don't want to. The whole people pinching you thing pretty much ended in elementary school, so don't celebrate it if you don't want to. But let others who want to wear green and eat green food do so and have fun doing it!

Alright, enough soapbox talk. I have two tests this week. One of which I need to go take in about an hour. Joy. Just get it over with, then I can get back to reading a really cute book I started, Goose Girl. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it!

Pi

Happy Early Pi Day! Technically its tomorrow (3.14.08) but we decided to celebrate a little early.
Kristin came down on Tuesday to play with me. We had a lot of fun, thanks Kris! We went to Brick Oven for lunch (SO GOOD!) and went to the mall (didn't find one single thing to buy....little disappointed!), and went and visited Carolyn at her school, then we went to Carolyn's and made her an early Pi day pie. It was pretty delish. It is a cream cheese lemon pie. Way good!!! It was fun to see her and to play around for the day. I could definitely use more of those days!!!


I think I may finally be catching up to the rest of my family. Over the last several weeks, each member of my family has had their battle with the nasty cold/flu bug that has been going around. Luckily, I have somehow managed to avoid it....until now. Yesterday and this morning I woke up with a horrible sore throat and feeling very weak and fatigued. Not good. Yesterday it went away by 11. Today my throat is better now, but my head is starting to feel a little like a balloon. That means its coming. Bummer, I thought I was safe for the season! I think I will just go take some advil and lay down in my bed. That sounds good. Too bad I have a test that I have to go take. Today is the last day without a fee, and I refuse to pay a late fee to take a test. So I guess I will just have to trudge my way up to the testing center somehow. Wish me luck.

Also....great news. I got my official acceptance letter to grad school from the University of Utah! I am official now! I also applied to the University of Nevada, Reno, and got accepted there as well. I think that I am going to go with the U though. Hopefully it will be a good choice!!

Acceptance

Happy, nervous, anxious, scared, excited. Saturday I got home from Carolyn's to find a letter sitting on my bed for me. It was from the University of Utah. I was really nervous to open it, not wanting to know what it said. I sat down, and opened the letter. The first three lines read "Dear Emily, I am pleased to inform you that the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has recommended to the Graduate School that you be admitted to our Master's Degree program in Speech and Language Pathology beginning Fall semester, 2008." Meaning: I got accepted to grad school at the U!! Oh my gosh! Truthfully, I thought I would get in but there is always that side of doubt in your mind. But, I made it! I have to accept the position by April, so I still have a little time. But now I have plans for next year! I was feeling a little left out because people all over campus are getting housing and registering and stuff, and I wasn't doing any of that. But now, I have a plan! I am off to grad school!!!
